- Creator of Today I Ate A Rainbow

Kia is the creator of Today I Ate A Rainbow and we had the privilege of chatting with her to get the scoop on what the heck Today I Ate a Rainbow is (my kids got obsessed from school) and what motivates her!

What is Today I Ate A Rainbow?

Today I Ate A Rainbow is all about getting kids (and their parents) excited about eating a rainbow of colorful fruits and veggies! The idea is that using a rainbow as a guide ensures that we are getting a wide spectrum of vitamins and nutrients because each color group offers a unique combination. We created the Today I Ate A Rainbow Chart to turn healthy eating into a fun game that helps set healthy eating habits. It's a magnetic chart that goes on the fridge or wall that uses different shaped magnets to keep track of the colors eaten every day.

How did you come up with the idea?

Being a picky eater I wanted to do everything in my power to prevent my daughter from becoming a picky eater too, so I took our mutual love of charts (we used one for potty training, chores, etc.) and created one to track the produce she was eating. She loved that it became a game and I loved knowing exactly what colors she was eating!

What motivates you?

Being a happy, healthy role model for my daughter motivates me the most and a close second would be hearing from parents that are so grateful that our product turned their kiddos into a veggie eaters! I believe anything in life is possible when you have good health and knowing that I can play a small role in helping set kids on the path to a healthy life is very motivating.

What is the biggest challenge running your own biz and the biggest reward?

The biggest challenge, wow there are a lot of them (LOL), but I would say the biggest would be trying to find that elusive work/life balance. The biggest reward would be knowing that I can take an idea and bring it into reality and showing my daughter that she can do the same!

Excluding yours, what company or business do you admire the most?

There are so many companies that I admire - can I say ezpz?! Because I don't think I've ever seen a company take off so quickly and so well - right out of the gate! It's truly impressive and wonderful to see a new company thrive!

Do you have anything else to share?

Yes! I'm so excited to share a new initiative and website that I have been working on called the Eat A Rainbow Project! The Eat A Rainbow Project is a collection of nutrition education ideas and materials for Educators and Parents to teach the concept of eating a rainbow! The website is loaded with free materials, information, teaching ideas, videos and so much more. Our goal is for the website to become THE place for anyone who wants to get kids excited about eating fruits and veggies!
